Our Trustees
The Roseland Centre Charity is guided by trustees with experience across education, outdoor learning, business, sustainability, community development and charitable governance.
Together, they support the vision of securing the long-term future of The Roseland Centre as a welcoming, accessible and sustainable resource for Cornwall and beyond.
Keith Ives – Chair
Keith moved to Cornwall in 1986 and has over 40 years’ experience in the catering industry as a Savoy-trained chef. He was resident chef at the Centre (formerly Cornwall Outdoors Roseland Outdoor Education Centre) from 2010–2016. A St Just-in-Roseland Parish Councillor, Keith was a founding member of the committee established to save the Centre and now serves as Chair of The Roseland Centre Charity.
Gordon Humphreys – Treasurer
Gordon enjoyed a long and successful career in the Merchant Navy and international shipping before retiring as Vice President (Shipping Operations) for a global energy trading company. Since retiring, he has supported several local charities as Treasurer, bringing extensive financial, organisational and problem-solving skills to The Roseland Centre Charity.
Tony Bowden – Fundraising & Strategy Trustee
Tony is an entrepreneur with deep family roots in the Roseland. As Trustee with responsibility for strategy and fundraising, Tony brings a wealth of experience in collaboration and strategic development.
Deborah Lambert – Education, Partnerships & Safeguarding Trustee
Deborah has over 35 years’ experience in education across primary, special, further and higher education in Cornwall. She has worked with nationally recognised outdoor learning projects, including Plymouth University’s Natural Connections Demonstration Project, led the Erasmus+ Natural Schooling project, and is co-author of Bloomsbury’s award-winning National Curriculum Outdoors series.
Having experienced sailing and wild camping, cooking over open fires and canoeing at the Centre in the past, she has seen first-hand how these experiences can build confidence and inspire future choices and is committed to giving children the opportunity to create their own lifelong outdoor memories.
As Partnerships Trustee, Designated Safeguarding Lead and lead for Website & Communications, Deborah develops partnerships with schools, colleges and universities, creating opportunities for curriculum enrichment, field studies and residential learning.
Sheelah Goldsmith – Sustainability Trustee
Drawing on over 30 years’ experience as an English and Drama teacher, including 20 years at The Roseland School, Sheelah understands the lasting impact residential outdoor learning experiences can have on young people, building confidence, resilience and creating lifelong memories and friendships.
A lifelong environmentalist and founder member of the Roseland Environment Action Community Team (REACT), Sheelagh is passionate about sustainability, wellbeing and environmental education. She is delighted that The Roseland Centre combines outdoor learning with a strong commitment to conservation, sustainability and community, helping future generations develop a lifelong connection with the natural world.
Graham Turpin – Education & Governance Trustee
Graham’s career as a Clinical Psychologist has included working within the NHS and the Universities of Plymouth and Sheffield. He has held senior national roles in psychology education, training and professional development, including serving as a National Advisor for Education and Training with the Department of Health and as a Trustee of the British Psychological Society.
A Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and the Academy of Social Sciences, Graham brings valuable experience in healthcare, education and charitable governance. Since moving to the Roseland, he has continued his commitment to the local community as a trustee and Chair of the Roseland Festival. He is passionate about supporting the Centre’s commitment to wellbeing, inclusion, sustainability and community, helping to create positive experiences and opportunities for young people.
