The Roseland Centre: Creative Outdoor Learning and Adventure

The Roseland Centre (TRC) has a long history of welcoming schools from across Cornwall and beyond.

Set on the beautiful Roseland Peninsula within the Cornwall National Landscape, the Centre provides a distinctive setting for residential and day visits, welcoming schools, colleges, universities, research groups and other organisations seeking a place to explore, collaborate and connect with the natural environment.

Formerly Cornwall Outdoors Roseland Outdoor Education Centre, TRC now supports teacher-led curriculum enrichment, creativity, field studies, environmental education, outdoor learning and adventure.

The Roseland Centre provides a flexible base for teacher-led residentials, day visits, creativity and research, with:

Developing new learning partnerships

Building on our strong foundations with schools, we are developing relationships with colleges, universities and research organisations. The Centre can provide a practical base for field studies, environmental research, student placements and professional learning, making use of the unique opportunities offered by our coastal location.

We are particularly interested in working with organisations whose aims align with our commitment to outdoor learning, sustainability and a deeper understanding of the natural world.

TRC already contributes to wider environmental initiatives, including providing a base for the Ocean Conservation Trust’s dive team during marine conservation work in the area, as well as supporting local schools with coastal studies.

Looking ahead, we are well placed to support emerging areas of the curriculum, including the Natural History GCSE. Our location offers an ideal practical setting for fieldwork and ecological investigation, while helping students develop skills in observation, recording, analysis and understanding the environment around them.

Teacher training and networking partnerships

The Roseland Centre is committed to championing high quality outdoor learning.

With the new Enrichment Framework Curriculum coming into effect in 2027, we want to help schools make meaningful use of outdoor learning within their existing curriculum. Rather than being seen as an additional subject or an extra demand on an already crowded timetable, we believe the outdoors can be used as a practical and engaging approach across a range of subjects.

The Centre will host a programme of teacher training, CPD and local networking opportunities, delivered in association with the author of Bloomsbury’s bestselling National Curriculum Outdoor, a complete scheme-of-work series of books for teachers. The aim is to give teachers the confidence, knowledge and practical skills to mThe first one is in February.

We aim to bring together teachers and practitioners who are passionate about developing outdoor learning, from schools across St Austell, Truro and the Roseland Peninsula.

Why do we offer this opportunity?

A residential at the Roseland Centre offers something a little different: time and space to slow down, breathe, explore and learn together.

It gives teachers the freedom to shape their own experience – expanding what a residential experiences can offer by creating space for teachers to bring their own ideas, creativity and expertise to life

A unique setting for education and enrichment

We work with schools, colleges and universities to create experiences that bring together creativity, discovery, adventure and wellbeing.

The Centre provides a flexible setting for creative enrichment across the curriculum, allowing students to step outside the usual classroom or campus environment and experience learning in a different way. The natural and cultural surroundings of St Just in Roseland provide both inspiration and space to explore new ideas.

Schools, colleges and universities can also create their own ‘Roseland Retreat’; a dedicated opportunity to pause, explore and immerse students in a creative project. From art, painting and making to creative writing, storytelling, photography and performance, the Centre offers space for students to develop ideas, discover new interests and express themselves.

We work with teachers and educational partners to shape programmes around specific subjects, themes or learning objectives. This might involve bringing a subject to life through the outdoors, developing a creative project, or simply giving students the time and space to explore, make and imagine.
