The Roseland Centre: Creative Outdoor Learning and Adventure

The Roseland Centre (TRC) has a long history of welcoming schools from across Cornwall and beyond.

Set on the beautiful Roseland Peninsula within the Cornwall National Landscape, the Centre offers a unique setting for residential and day learning, supporting schools, colleges, universities and research groups, as well as accredited teacher CPD.

Formerly Cornwall Outdoors Roseland Outdoor Education Centre, TRC now provides opportunities for curriculum enrichment, creativity, field studies, environmental education, outdoor learning and adventure.

This includes our unique offer for schools to support teachers with ‘Taking the Curriculum Outdoors’, a one day course accredited by the Institute of Outdoor Learning.

Our coastal and estuarine setting provides a natural classroom for hands-on learning across a wide range of subjects and ages. From wildlife, habitats and marine environments to geology, geography, local history, conservation, climate change and sustainability, the Roseland landscape offers endless opportunities to explore, discover and learn.

Developing new learning partnerships

Building on our strong foundations with schools, we are developing partnerships with colleges, universities and research organisations, creating opportunities for field studies, environmental research, student placements and professional learning within this unique coastal setting.

We welcome partnerships with organisations whose aims align with our commitment to outdoor learning, sustainability and understanding the natural world. The Centre already supports wider environmental initiatives, including providing a base for the Ocean Conservation Trust’s dive team during marine conservation work in the area and local schools with their coastal studies.

We are particularly well placed to support emerging opportunities such as the Natural History GCSE, providing a practical setting and curriculum support for fieldwork, ecological investigation and developing skills in observation, recording and analysis.

With the new curriculum coming into effect in 2027, we aim to support schools in enriching their curriculum delivery, embedding outdoor learning within existing subjects as an approach, rather than being perceived as additional subject, or add on, in an already crowded timetable.

The centre offers teacher support and training, CPD and whole school INSET, in association with outdoor learning expert and Bloomsbury author, Deborah Lambert, helping educators build confidence in linking outdoor learning to curriculum objectives and making effective use of their own school grounds.

A unique setting for education, field studies, creativity and discovery

We work with schools, colleges and universities to create experiences that combine creativity, learning, adventure, discovery and wellbeing.

The Centre can be used across the curriculum and as a setting for creative enrichment programmes, giving students the opportunity to learn in a different way and be inspired by the beautiful natural and cultural surroundings of St Just in Roseland.

The Centre also offers the potential for schools, colleges and universities to create their own creative ‘Roseland Retreat’; a chance to step away from the usual classroom or campus environment and immerse students in creativity, exploration and inspiration. From art, painting and making to creative writing, storytelling, photography, performance and other creative disciplines, the Centre provides space and inspiration for students to develop their ideas, discover new interests and express themselves.

We work with teachers and educational partners to shape programmes around particular subjects, themes or learning objectives; whether that means bringing a specific subject to life through the outdoors, developing a creative project, or simply giving students the time and space to explore, make and imagine.

We are delighted to work with Deborah Lambert, author of Bloomsbury’s award-winning National Curriculum Outdoors series, who supports schools to develop engaging outdoor learning programmes that make the most of our unique setting.
